The Habibie Center (THC) is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to support the development and expansion of its Just Energy Transition and Climate Action (JETCA) program. As part of the JETCA team, the Media and Communication Strategist will lead all internal and external communications, media outreach, and public relations activities. This role will craft communication materials and effectively convey THC’s approaches, outputs, and impacts to amplify the importance of justice in the energy transition agenda and climate action efforts in Indonesia, positioning THC as a thought leader in this critical area. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for the period of January 2025 – May 2026, with the possibility of extension. The position will be based in Jakarta. As part
of this endeavor, Media and Communication Strategist will be required to fulfill
responsibilities to:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to enhance message reach to stakeholders through various channels, activities, and events.
- Serve as the primary contact for all media inquiries, cultivating and maintaining relationships with key journalists, editors, and opinion leaders covering energy transition and climate change issues.
- Pitch stories to reporters, producers, and editors to secure favorable coverage across various media outlets.
- Produce high-quality articles, reports, and social media content that adhere to journalistic integrity and standards.
- Conduct interviews and gather information from stakeholders to create compelling narratives related to just energy transition and climate change.
- Write and distribute press memos, releases, and other communication materials, translating complex policy concepts into accessible messaging.
- Utilize THC's podcast studio for outreach messages and prepare spokespeople for interviews and public appearances, including drafting talking points
- Regularly monitor media coverage and provide reports to THC leadership on relevant trends, news, and stories related to energy transition and climate policy.
- Monitor relevant trends and developments in media and culture, identifying opportunities for THC to position itself as a key thought leader.
- Represent The Habibie Center at relevant forums, seminars, workshops, and other events in Jakarta and the region, both online and offline.
- Complete all deliverables as part of ongoing projects and contribute to securing future projects;
- Assist with other program activities/events as needed

Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in communications, journalism, environmental studies, international development, social marketing, or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree with strong relevant experience.;
- Strong experience in communications, media relations or journalism, preferably within a think tank and advocacy organization, or related field. ;
- In-depth knowledge of energy transition and climate change issues, with a good understanding of social justice and Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) approaches is advantageous.;
- Familiarity with current news, discourses, and events related to energy transition and climate action, ;
- Proven track record of developing and executing communications strategies and campaigns in fast-paced, mission-driven environments.
- Extensive experience in media and press strategy across print, broadcast, and digital platforms, including social media and digital communications. Proficiency in live-streaming and video content creation is advantageous.
- Strong skills in writing, editing, messaging, and verbal communication, with sharp attention to detail, including the ability to conduct interviews, research, and write compelling stories that are accessible to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate content outreach and media impact.
- Proficiency with visual and audio-visual tools and software.
- Experience in building relationships and connecting with various stakeholders, including local and international organizations, policy makers, practitioners, media partners, CSOs/NGOs.
- Fluency in Indonesian and strong proficiency in both written and spoken English.
